“But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun. Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18,19
At the college prayer walk last week, our university pastor, Evan, asked us to pray for God to do a new thing in the lives of our students and in student ministry. It has been my prayer each day since that God would do a new thing in my life as well. You see, as I’m writing this, it’s hard to see the screen through my tears because my daughter, the #2 King, is driving back to Dallas to begin her junior year of college. There’s a stack of dorm paraphernalia growing in our dining room that will travel to Riverside, California in a week where #3 will begin his freshman year at Cal Baptist. And then my heart will be torn out of my body and dispersed all over the western United States. Between their new adventures and the grown and married child’s career path, I have worked myself out of a job.
Not only does motherhood look different now, but so does my writing. I was blessed to have a contract with a publisher for a book series, but that’s complete, and I am wandering in the proverbial desert again. I need God to do a new thing.
See, I have already begun. Do you not see it?
Seven hundred years before the birth of Christ, Isaiah assured the people of Isreal that God was going to send a savior to redeem them. There was no way they could have known how that plan was already unfolding. Yet, the scriptures show how God orchestrated their redemption and ours in His perfect timing.
Your wilderness may look nothing like mine in this season, but rest assured God is already doing a new thing in it. Nothing is too desolate or too broken, and too much time has never passed for God to do a mighty work in us. He is carving paths and creating thirst-quenching rivers where we only see dry earth.
Trust His timing, and worship through the waiting.
